How can we help business envision the roads to future sustainable packaging solutions, in the face of new regulation and rising consumer expectations? In close collaboration with SAP and the Foresight Academy, gravity spent 8 months diving deep into the world of packaging to create a set of future scenarios to help businesses understand, prepare, and innovate both their products and their systems.

The research consisted of a variety of research methods, combining the strengths of design thinking and foresight methodology. The team interviewed brand leaders dealing with packaging issues, experts pushing sustainable packaging forward, and everyday people dealing with packaging and its waste. In Germany and Vietnam, the team visited recycling centers, packaged and package-free retail stores, a brewery using the bottle deposit system, and more.

Ideation and co-creation sessions with experts and the industrial design studio Form Us With Love helped hone a massive amount of insights into tangible and actionable scenarios.
